Season of mellow myths, music and fruitfulness

Children returning to school means it’s time for the Norland Scarecrow Festival. The Festival began as a Millenium celebration and is now a popular annual event in the Calderdale village of Norland, with over 80 scarecrows featured in the trail.

September also sees the arrival of the South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival: 17 days of walking, cycling and horse-riding events spread across the landscape. Rossendale’s Foodie Walking Festival is a popular event too.

The well-established Ilkley Literature Festival takes place each October, when the former spa town glitters with the literati.  Or if you prefer music to words, then head on down to Marsden for its annual Jazz Festival.

Holmfirth’s events calendar doesn’t ease up after the summer months either, with the Food and Drink Festival taking centre stage at the end of September.
